biography
"The Tom Fun Orchestra is a rock'n'roll homage to Vaudeville, featuring an ambitious mix of electric and traditional acoustic instruments and enough skilled musicians on stage to intimidate even the largest crowds. Their musical freak show is more reminiscent of a gypsy encampment than what you have come to expect from your standard pub fare. Lead by Tom's unique and undeniable songwriting talents, the sound, the songs and the experience are among the most refreshing the Maritimes has to offer. The band's distinctive instrumentation marries a would-be bluegrass orchestra of violin, banjo, accordion, and trumpet to a driving trio of guitars and pounding drums. Built on a foundation of exemplary musicianship, the charming rhythm section allows Morgan Currie and Albert Lionais the freedom to provide intoxicating leads on violin and trumpet that soar over cutting melodies and a wall of accordion and banjo. The gang is led upfront by the vocal duo of Tom Fun and Alicia Penney as lead, often being joined by the remaining seven members. As a front man, the Good Ship Tom Fun is as entertaining and engaging as the best in the business with an extremely animated presence and a remarkable ability to think on his feet. The band has spent the past year rocking stages across Canada. With a push from their demo receiving heavy air play on the CBC, The Tom Fun Orchestra had the honor of being the buzz band at the 2006 East Coast Music Awards, impressing fans, musicians, and industry professionals alike with their engaging songcraft, jaw-dropping musicianship and an endearing and invigorating stage show."
